THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a Senior Principal Product Manager in Client Foundations (CF) Platform, you will shape and drive the strategic product vision for the technology and data platform that powers Zalando’s next-generation customer experience across Web, iOS, and Android applications.

In this high-impact executive role, you will bridge two vital platform domains: our unified client architecture (powered by React Native, Server-Driven UI (SDUI), and Rendering Engine frameworks) and our enterprise-wide Tracking & Behavioral Data Platform. You will work in close partnership with Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Design leaders to build state-of-the-art developer tooling, high-throughput data ingestion pipelines, and automated tracking systems that serve hundreds of internal feature teams and millions of active customers across all Customer Facing Applications (CFAs).

Your goal is to enable rapid innovation and hyper-personalized customer journeys by delivering a seamless "write once, run everywhere" developer ecosystem alongside an automated, low-latency, and highly governed customer behavioral data platform.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

Define & Drive Platform Strategy: Envision, own, and execute the multi-year product roadmap for the Client Foundations Platform (RE Core, Application Operations & Productivity, and Tracking Platform), aligning technical capabilities with Zalando’s overarching CX and AI strategy.

Elevate Developer Velocity & Platform Health: Champion the developer experience for internal engineering teams by delivering robust CI/CD infrastructure, Over-the-Air (OTA) update capabilities, cross-platform UI frameworks, and standardized renderer APIs.

Pioneer Out-Of-The-Box (OOTB) Tracking & Governance: Lead the transition from manual, legacy client-side tracking to an automated, module-centric tracking architecture. Integrate declarative tracking natively into UI modules and leverage server-side data enrichment to eliminate engineering friction and drastically reduce time-to-insight.

Enable AI & Real-Time Personalization: Drive low-latency (<10s) customer event delivery and feature engineering pipelines (integrated with Databricks, Event bus, and Central Feature Store) to power mid-session ML models, recommendation engines, and agentic commerce experiences.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment: Partner seamlessly with senior leaders across Engineering, Data & Analytics, Design, and Business domain teams. Serve as a force multiplier by establishing strong data governance, clear platform contracts, and transparent cost-attribution models.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• Senior Platform PM Experience at Scale: You have 8+ years of technical product management experience leading large-scale developer platforms, client-side UI frameworks, or enterprise data/analytics infrastructure in a major e-commerce or marketplace environment.
• Client Architecture Fluency: You possess a deep understanding of mobile (iOS/Android) and Web client architectures, cross-platform frameworks (React Native), Server-Driven UI (SDUI), and modern web/app rendering engines.
• Data & Telemetry Expertise: You have a proven track record of managing high-throughput event ingestion pipelines, data contracts, and client-side telemetry instrumentation. Experience powering AI/ML feature stores is a major plus.
• Strategic & Operational Vision: You have successfully spearheaded complex system transformations—such as Greenfield platform migrations, legacy system deprecations, and schema governance automation—while managing risk and maintaining operational excellence.
• Customer & Developer Obsession: You excel at converting internal developer pain points and data consumer needs into scalable, self-service platform tools.
• Masterful Stakeholder Management: You are a collaborative leader capable of inspiring cross-functional engineering and data science teams, driving executive alignment, and communicating complex technical paradigms to diverse audiences.
