The Tax & Year-End area at Shine

The Tax & Year-End area is a brand-new area at Shine with a dual mission: building the pan-European tax & year-end engine, and building a winning product for tax advisors and CPAs in Germany. German accounting and tax is a highly specialized domain, and building the right product requires more than generic product expertise. We need someone who deeply understands the tax advisory profession in Germany and can help us turn that expertise into a better product.

Your role as Principal Product Specialist, German Accounting | Steuerberater

Sie kennen den Alltag einer Steuerkanzlei aus erster Hand: die Fristen, die Mandanten und die Software, die nicht immer so funktioniert, wie sie sollte. Als Principal Product Specialist bringen Sie genau diese Expertise in unser Produktteam ein und sorgen dafür, dass unsere Lösungen für Buchhaltung und Steuern die Sprache der Steuerberater:innen sprechen. Sie übersetzen steuerliche und buchhalterische Anforderungen in klare Produktentscheidungen, arbeiten eng mit Product Managern, Designern und Engineers zusammen und gestalten die Produktrichtung aktiv mit. Das alles ohne Fristendruck und ohne abrechenbare Stunden, dafür mit echtem Einfluss. Sie berichten direkt an den Product Director unseres neu gegründeten Bereichs Tax & Year End und werden dort die erste Stimme für deutsche Buchhaltung und Steuern sein.

We are looking for a Principal Product Specialist, German Accounting | Steuerberater to bring deep German accounting and tax expertise into our product organization.

This role is designed for someone who has a strong understanding of German accounting and tax rules, accounting workflows, and the day-to-day reality of Steuerberater practices in Germany. You will act as a senior subject matter expert, helping our product teams build accounting features that are both technically robust and deeply aligned with the needs of German tax advisors and small businesses.

Your mission will be to ensure that our accounting product is built on a deep and accurate understanding of German accounting and tax practices. You will help translate accounting and tax rules, tax advisor workflows, and market expectations into clear product guidance, product requirements, and operational insights. You will be a key bridge between accounting expertise and product execution.

This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who wants to have a strong impact on product direction without necessarily managing a team. The role reports directly to the Product Director of the Tax & Year-End area and will work closely with Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, Accounting Operations, and our Steuerberater partners.

Job located in Berlin, Germany with possibility of remote working days

What You Will Be Doing

• Bring deep expertise in German accounting and tax rules, standards, and day-to-day accounting practices.
• Help product teams understand how Steuerberater work in practice, including their workflows, pain points, vocabulary, tools, and expectations.
• Contribute to the definition of product requirements for accounting- and tax-related features.
• Review product designs, specifications, and user flows to ensure they are accounting-relevant and compliant with German accounting and tax practices.
• Support the Product Director and Product Managers in prioritizing accounting-related product opportunities.
• Act as an internal reference point for questions related to German accounting and tax, Steuerberater workflows, and accounting software usage.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to clarify edge cases and ensure implementation choices are aligned with accounting reality.
• Work with Steuerberater partners to gather feedback, validate product directions, and identify improvement opportunities.
• Help structure internal knowledge around German accounting and tax processes, tools, and best practices.
• Support go-to-market, customer success, and operations teams when accounting expertise is needed.

What You Will Bring

• You have worked as a Steuerberater or in a senior accounting or tax role in Germany.
• You have strong knowledge of German accounting and tax processes, obligations, and professional practices.
• You understand how tax advisory firms operate and how Steuerberater work with SME clients.
• You have experience with German accounting software such as DATEV, Addison, Agenda, Simba, or similar tools.
• You have ideally worked at, or closely with, one of our Steuerberater partners in Germany.
• You are comfortable translating complex accounting and tax topics into clear product and business language.
• You can work effectively with Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, and senior stakeholders.
• You speak perfect German and very good English.
• You are ideally based in the Berlin area.
